Reach the Peak Program

 
An intensive accelerated early literacy program for students in Prep to Year 4.

Policy Statement

Reach the Peak is an intensive Early Literacy Program designed to improve student learning outcomes in spelling, reading, writing and sight word knowledge. The program operates four afternoons per week for a total of 5 hrs. Entry criteria will be used to determine which students will access the program. Exit criteria will determine when students leave the program. Participation in this program means that students will miss some other Key Learning Areas, therefore students will access this program for no longer than one term each semester. Identified students falling just below the Regional Benchmarks will be taken in the first round. Students at lower levels will be taken into the program in subsequent rounds. Attendance of 90% is integral to the success of the program.

  • Reading Comprehension and Test Taking strategies Expressive Writing
  • Core List Spelling (C2C)
  • Sight Words (NZ List) 

 

Selection Criteria & Guidelines

  • Students with >90% attendance
  • Students below entry data level, but closest to achieving exit data will enter the program first
  • A Personalised Learning Plan will be completed by Class Teacher, RTP Teacher, Teacher Aide, Parent, Child
  • Goals set and attendance agreed
  • Progress to be monitored, recorded and reported to parents every 5 weeks or more often, by TA
  • Students will miss other KLA lessons for the duration of the program
  • Students will remain in the program for a maximum of 10 weeks at any one time
  • Program will operate Monday-Thursday from 1.40pm-2.55pm
